About
I have been the main photographer and manager at Headshots Photography for 15 years. Originally from the UK, I worked in the travel industry and moved to the US in 1997.
My specialty is portraits, especially of people who don’t like having their picture taken! I love finding beautiful light and I make the process of getting a new headshot efficient and painless.
I learned portrait photography and lighting from Peter and have spent the past 15 years perfecting my process and style. I have developed our business to provide high quality headshots to professionals in all fields. I work with all types of businesses, including lawyers, medical providers, wealth managers, and universities, to efficiently deliver amazing business portraits
I also love photographing groups and enjoy the challenge and creativity of photographing editorial portraits.
My superpower is my ability to connect with my subject quickly and help them to feel comfortable with being photographed. Whether or not you hate having your picture taken, send me a message and we can get you a beautiful new headshot!
Joanne Smith
I graduated from Boston University’s College of Communication where I concentrated in photojournalism. I went on to become a staff photographer for the Lawrence Eagle Tribune and was part of the 1988 team that won a Pulitzer Prize for national political coverage. I founded Headshots Photography in 1989. My wife, Jo, took over operations in 2010 and has expanded the company's reach to include all of New England and New York City.
During the 1990s, I was a news photographer for Gamma Liaison and a corporate photographer for Getty Images. In 2000, I returned to the Journalism Department at Boston University and continue my work there as a Master Lecturer.
I find portraiture to be a core tool of visual storytelling. I believe that portraits convey more than the likeness of a subject, but also show a subject’s confidence, integrity and personality. Along with the ability to connect with a subject in a fundamental way, I bring an understanding of light and moment to every image I create. I also find video storytelling to be a natural extension of portraiture in corporate communication.
